The TV interviewers miss the point all the time. They speak with politicians as if the politicians are working for the people, and therefore, as if it is in the politicians best interests to lower the gas prices.
Here is the question that they should ask:
1 - "How much extra does your government gain in budgetary income via taxes for every dollar increase in the price of gasoline?"
2 - "What were the total donations to your specific political party and other political parties from oil companies in the last year?"
3 - "Have any politicians from your party ever attended a function paid for by Big Oil? "
Here are my guesses as to the truthful answers:
1 - Billions of dollars extra
2 - Millions of dollars to every large political party
3 - Yes.
But that is only my guess, I could be wrong.
And here are the likely answers you might get:
1 - Obviously this is a fluctuating situation, yada yada yada yada, waffle, waffle, waffle waffle.
2 - I am not involved with the party income accounting, yadayadayada, my party receives donations from many varied sources, I have no idea if Big Oil is one of them, but it might be, waffle, waffle, yadayadayada. It is important to have transparency in what we do politically, and in the past yadayadayada, waffle, waffle, waffle. Our election promises were yada yada yada, and we have achieved waffle, waffle, waffle, ongoing goal, waffle waffle.
3 - I wouldn't have the answer to that, but as far as I know, all functions are paid for by the party or from resources allocated for that. It is important that tapayers are not burdened, yadayadayada, waffle waffle, and any sponsorship is given yadayadayada, wafflewaffle, waffle.
