If we look at newsreels of past political figures, we see that some are boring, but others seem to command attention. John Kennedy springs to mind, as does Fidel Castro, Nikita Krushchev, as well as milder people such as Bill Clinton.
Even Adolf Hitler could hold a crowds attention, even though he needed to set an almost religious mood to do so, and he certainly solved the roaring inflation in Germany that occurred after World War One. He did of course have the snag of being a raving murderous maniac, which generally can cause eventual dissent.
But it is a plain fact that people will respect a politician more if that politician is a 'nice' person, or an awe-inspiring one.
This is where Barack Obama should excel. He has the charm, as well as the ideas that attract people, although his intent to cut taxes might fall flat on it's face.
Funny that there seems no resistance to him based on race, it doesn't seem to be an issue. This could mean that as the world gets more mixed, the race issue is already fading.
I have no idea if he will make a BETTER president than John McCain, but I believe that he will make a more interesting and popular one.
