Government of China is under scrutiny.
I guess it might be inappropriate to divert attention from the athletes at the Olympic Games, but it seems from news items now that news crews are in Beijing, that the performance of the Government of China is under scrutiny.
Abuses Of Power
I think that it is obvious that China is not being run at the same level as the western world, but that might not be a bad thing.
There are many abuses of power though, just as there are in western governments, except of course that the western ones are perhaps more hidden.
Minority Wins, Majority Loses
Ultimately, it is impossible to suppress a major amount of people. It is looking like the situation in China might be that it is good for the young and educated, and suppressive for the elderly and less educated.
Following The Western Model
So, it seems to be following the western model, where the corporations have the government working on their behalf, as opposed to the behalf of the rank and file people. And like the west, there are few political choices, as even if individuals who are supportive of the people obtain power, they will no doubt soon be made to toe the party line.
If China continues to closely follow the western model, a model that is currently in decline, then they will be backing a loser in the way of governmental policy.
Lighten Up, Chinese Government!
It will be interesting to see if once the Olympics are over, if the pressure eases. Right now, it is looking like the Chinese government are a little stressed. Perhaps they need to lighten up.
It is like a wedding ceremony, it can be planned as mush as you please, but there are always situations that can occur that are unscheduled, and that is part of life. The culture of China is the culture of China, and might be better left as such, snags and all, instead of trying to emulate the best of the west.
The Sad Conclusion
Globally, all people want the same, food, shelter, and a lack of tyranny. It seems that some of the displaced residents in China might be currently lacking all three.
