I have been looking into why I have failed completely to obtain a Google Page Rank for this blog, or for my other blogs.
After discussion with those who know much more about the subject than I do, I have discovered the following, which seems to check out as a basic concept.
You should have no more than a total of 100 links to other blogs showing on your main page. This includes from comments, from lists of friends, from advertising entries, from everything.
This is definitely not to say that if you have more you will never get good Page Rank, it is just a guide - it is a well known and published fact that Google has a 100 limit unless there are other factors. These would include, presumably, a blog with massive traffic figures, as such a blog might be exempt from the basic rule. In fact, I found a political discussion blog that had over 400 links, yet had PR 7.
But, the 100 limit is a good guide for beginners.
I have just checked my Cynical Blog (see the link at top of page - I don't want to add another one!) and found that it is now PR 3 as of today.
So, it seems a good step to obtaining PR is to hide all the links from view until you only have less than 100 showing on the main page.
